Bei Hans-Ruedi Rohrer ist immer das Motiv der Star, nicht der sich im Hintergrund haltende inszenierende Fotograf. Knalleffekte sucht man vergeblich – Stille, Kontemplation und die innere Natur der Objekte stehen im Vordergrund. Seine Bilder sind präzise und hoch ästhetisch komponiert, dem Zufall bleibt – mit Ausnahme von gewissen gewollt archaisch anmutenden Food-Aufnahmen – wenig bis kein Raum. Die Nature morte erhält durch ihn ihr wahres Bild, erscheint in ihrer Essenz. Die nötige Ruhe dazu holt er sich auf ausgedehnten Wanderungen in den Alpen, die er eindrücklich fotografisch dokumentiert.

For Hans-Ruedi Rohrer there’s one unshakable constant in his work: The motiv is the star and the photographer’s duty is to help let it shine. If you’re looking for in-your-face effects . . . there are none. Calm, contemplation and the true inner nature of the objects take center stage. His pictures are precise, esthetical compositions that leave little to no room for unnecessarily spectacular effects. His stills—with the possible exception of his sometimes intendedly archaic food pictures—show things in their unalterable essence and beauty. To be able to do this, a man needs to be at rest with himself the way he does on long Alpine excursions. Excursions that are impressively documented in his free work.
